Jairus Miller

Jairus Miller
§ Profile · HMREst. 2005

Maine-raised producer whose Ever After (HMDIGITAL001, 2005) opened the Hunya Munya Digital catalog, following earlier aliases Isotope 99 and 5i and signings to Toes in the Sand, Source of Gravity, and Pacific Front.

Jairus Miller has been producing music ever since he was six years old. After (involuntarily) taking piano lessons throughout his childhood, he picked up a guitar at age 13 and began to make noise of a different sort. The desire to expand his spectrum of musical expression eventually materialized in the recording of sounds on 4-track cassette tapes, and this turn led to the acquisition and use of music software on a desktop computer.

Growing up on an island off the coast of Maine in the United States, Jairus was exposed to a multiplicity of natural and synthetic waveforms, a discourse which has profoundly shaped the direction and nuances of his electronic music. The pursuit of new digitally generated and manipulated sounds is circular, and inexorably linked with the analog realities such sounds represent.

In 1998, Jairus first began releasing music online under the moniker "Isotope 99", and later under the guise of "5i". In 2004 up-and-coming Australian label Infamous Light Recordings released the four-track "Feng Shui" EP by Jairus, which has received support from many internationally-known DJs.

Recent releases from Jairus have appeared on such respected labels as Toes in the Sand, Source of Gravity, Pure Substance, Adjust Recordings, Hunya Munya, and Pacific Front. In recent years, Jairus's music has been featured in production music libraries, national television broadcasts, live online webcasts and regional music reviews. In the immediate future Jairus has multiple releases and remixes lined up, with more sure to follow.

Jairus is continually striving to transcend geographical and genre boundaries and forge a connection with the global electronic music community. His compositions reach out to a wide variety of listeners, while still retaining a thematic commonality of purpose and execution. In Jairus's music, machines facilitate sounds springing forth from the heart and the mind.

Released Ever After (HMDIGITAL001) on Hunya Munya Digital in 2005.
